POP Observability provides a real-time, unified view of Discovery and Deployment operations for each Policy Orchestration Point (POP). From a single screen, you can monitor the status and timing of past and upcoming operations, trigger manual Discoveries, configure scheduling, and review the details of individual operations without leaving the Integration Workspace.
This visibility gives you control over operations between the Platform and your connected vendor systems, in addition to the synchronization state. It also accelerates troubleshooting and provides information on failures and requestIDs for further support investigations.
Accessing POP Observability
To open the POP Observability screen:
- From the Environment side panel, navigate to the Integration Workspace.
- Click the relevant POP card. If you have not yet created a POP, see Managing POPs.
- The POP Observability screen opens and displays the Observability tab by default.
Overview Widgets
The top of the screen displays four summary widgets that provide an at-a-glance view of Discovery and Deployment activity for the selected POP.
- Last Successful Discovery: Displays the date and time of the most recently completed Discovery operation for the POP.
- Last Successful Deployment: Displays the date and time of the most recently completed Deployment operation for the POP.
- Next Scheduled Discovery: Displays the date and time of the next scheduled Discovery run. This widget appears only when Scheduled Discovery is enabled.
- Next Scheduled Deployment: Displays the date and time of the next scheduled Deployment run. This widget appears only when Scheduled Deployment is enabled.
If Scheduled Discovery or Deployment has not been configured, a Set up link is displayed. Click the link to open the POP Scheduler panel and configure a schedule. For more information, see POP Scheduler Management.
Manual Discovery
Users can also trigger an immediate Discovery by clicking Discover now in the Table at the top.
A manual Discovery does not affect or reset any configured Scheduled Discovery.
Operations Table
The operations table provides a detailed log of all Discovery and Deployment activity for the POP. Each row represents a business operation.
Columns
To show or hide individual columns, click on the column display icon (grid icon) at the top-right corner of the table.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Operation Type | The type of operation performed: Discovery, Accept Vendor Changes, Accept Platform Changes, or Accept All Platform Changes. |
| Status | The outcome of the operation: Completed, Failed, Running, or Partial (In cases where the operation outcome varies between success and failure). |
| Start Time | The date and time when the operation started. |
| End Time | The date and time when the operation completed. |
| Duration | The total elapsed time of the operation. |
| Request ID | A unique identifier for the operation. Scheduler-initiated operations are prefixed with SCHEDULED_. |
| Operation Summary | A brief description of the operation result, such as the number of Policies discovered. This column is hidden by default and can be enabled through the column display settings. |
Filtering the Table
Use the filters in the toolbar to narrow the displayed results:
- Status: Filter by operation outcome: Completed, Failed, Running, or Partial.
- Operation Type: Filter by operation type: Discovery, Accept Vendor Changes, Accept Platform Changes, or Accept All Platform Changes.
- Time Range: Filter by one of the predefined time windows: Last 24 Hours, Last 7 Days, or Last 30 Days.
Filters can be combined to isolate specific activity.
Note: If multiple values are checked in a filter, it searches for them using an OR operation, while for multiple filter types it uses an AND operation.
Note: Observability data is not an audit trail, so records are not retained indefinitely, and historical data may not be available.
Operation Details Side Panel
Clicking a row in the operations table opens a side panel that displays detailed information about the selected operation.
General Information
- Status Badge: Indicates whether the operation completed, failed, is running, or is partial.
- Operation Summary: A plain-language description of what was discovered or deployed. For example: "Discovery summary from vendor: 1 Policy was discovered from POP."
- Start Time / End Time: The exact timestamps for the start and end of the operation.
- Operation Type: Identifies the operation type, such as Discovery.
- Request ID: The unique identifier for the operation, which can be used for support purposes.
Activity Timeline
The Activity Timeline provides a step-by-step breakdown of the operation's execution when applicable.
Each step includes:
- The step name (for example, Discovery).
- The timestamp when the step ran.
- The duration of the step.
- An activity status icon that displays more details on the status on hover, like information about an example failure of a specific operation.
For multi-step operations, the timeline displays each phase in sequence, making it easier to identify where an operation succeeded or failed.
Click Close to dismiss the panel and return to the operations table.
POP Observability gives you continuous insight into how PlainID synchronizes with your vendor systems. By reviewing operation history, monitoring upcoming schedules, and drilling into individual operation details, you can quickly confirm that Policies are up to date and address any issues before they affect Policy alignment.
