    Article summary

To meet the needs of organizations that want to maintain an on-premises component (for example for security or compliance reasons), the Platform offers a hybrid option that combines the best of a Cloud-based solution with a customer-hosted Policy Decision Point (PDP) element integrated with a fully-compatible and feature-rich Policy-based authorization solution.

The Hybrid Agent Key settings can be managed in the Tenant Settings screen. They enable you to take full advantage of the Platform while continuing to maintain a local Policy Decision Point.

By creating a Policy Authorization Agent locally, you can host the PDP and PIP to manage authorization decisions within your organization's system architecture and still have all of the benefits of the Platform solution.

    These benefits include:

    • Increased agility by enabling a hybrid configuration to allow for staged roll-outs, auto-scaling and other operational benefits typical of a containerized system.
    • Reduced latency such that all communication with the hybrid control plane is asynchronous rather than as part of processing client API requests.
    • Because your API gateway runs on-premises, closer to your backend services, it is possible to increase the adoption of an API gateway plugin by processing internal APIs through the local PDP.

Note that Policy Authorization Agents are managed at the Tenant level.
